Conferences, Lectures, Parties and Other New Events

November 2010: Erna Cooper spoke about her new book on Castle Rock Radio, based in Denver, Colorado, with host, author and clinical psychologist, Dr. Karyl McBride. The subjects were: maternal narcissism and memoir writing.

October 14-15, 2006: The International Women’s Writing Guild: The Big Apple Writing Workshops and Lecture Series. Erna was among a panel of other recently published women authors invited to discuss their works, at the IWWG (International Women’s Writing Guild), at Scandinavia House, in New York City.  The subject each year includes an introduction to the book published, and some discussion on the process of publishing it, choices made in the selection of publisher, as well as discussion on the writing process, editing, distribution, and other related issues, such as legal contracts, publicity, and the creative advantage of POD publishing for book designers and illustrators.  Erna will discussed her background as a specialist in women’s literature (specifically the works of Willa Cather and Marguerite Duras), and how this work was inspired by Cather’s writing (and her muse, Henry James) as well as by Erna’s years of ex-patriot life in Europe.

The short story collection, classified as a seemingly marginal genre, in the North American marketplace, until recently, was discussed in terms of its appeal to the ‘busy’ reader and working world as well as its role in the author’s creative development and training and in the history of noteworthy American and English authors from the past. The genre has recently re-emergenced as ‘central’ to the British writer’s marketplace and culture today, and we hope it to become the same in the US, again, soon.

The panelists’ speeches were followed by an audience discussion (question/answer session), which went marvellously well. It was a great turn-out, and she met lovely women from all over the world, including the US, Germany, Spain, and Singapore!
